Helichrysum gymnocephalumis steam distilled from the plant’s flowers and leaves. In its native Madagascar, it is known as Rambiazina. It is one of the two more common types of Helichrysum essential oil. The other one is Helichrysum italicum or Immortelle.
Both types are good for treating inflammation, colds, flu, skin conditions and congestion. Helichrysum gymnocephalum, however, is especially useful for the treatment of sore muscles, achy, arthritic joints, bronchitis and chest congestion.
It is also very energizing and stimulating. It has analgesic, antibacterial, anti-infectious, anti-inflammatory, antimalarial, antiseptic, antiviral, aphrodisiac, astringent, decongestant, disinfectant, expectorant, immuno-stimulant, mucolytic and tonic therapeutic properties.
Use Helichrysum gymnocephalum EO in an exfoliating scrub to improve your skin’s texture and appearance. It leaves the skin soft, smooth and supple. Mix 2 drops of Helichrysum gymnocephalum with 1 drop each of lavender and carrot seed, 1teaspoon of water, 1 teaspoon of aloe vera gel and 1 tablespoon of baking soda together. The aloe vera gel is good for your skin and helps offset the high pH of baking soda. Gently, rub the mixture over the skin in a circular motion. Don’t scrub. Baking soda is a very effective exfoliator. Scrubbing with it would be far too abrasive.
Apply the 2% blend to itchy skin to quickly stop the itch. This is great for insect bites and stings. For faster relief, add 1 to 2 drops of Helichrysum gymnocephalum to 1 teaspoon of aloe vera gel and lightly dab it on the itchy area.
